During the 2011/12 season, it received a number of misconduct charges relating to incidents caused by players, coaches and spectators.
Then Pete Malady took over as Welfare Officer.
“We were teetering on the brink of disaster,” Pete says. “We had serious disciplinary and behavioural problems and we needed to do something about it.”
Pete implemented a new regime to turn the club around. Offenders were asked to meet with a disciplinary panel and were hit with sanctions. There were meetings and bulletins regarding conduct, plus a series of courses for parents and coaches alike.
The results have been astounding and today the club is a shining example of the beautiful game. Last season, Bengeo Tigers did not pick up a single red card or misconduct charge and they achieved FA Charter Standard status that recognises the impressive levels of football practice they offer to young players.
Pete says: “We can still improve but now we feel like we’re on an even keel.”
